Beige Washi Kirie bath towel by Murakami Pile

Imabari Certified Towel - Imabari has led the towel industry for 130 years as the mecca of towel production. Excellent absorbency and high safety are the hallmarks of Imabari towels. This mark is only given to towels that have passed our unique quality standards in Imabari, the largest towel production area in Japan. It is proof that the towels are high quality and can be used comfortably and with peace of mind by our customers.

Thin yet strong, washi Japanese paper is said to be the world's most outstanding paper. Murakami Pile took classic washi made in the city of Mino in Gifu Prefecture, combined it with cotton and wove it into a towel. The washi paper fibres are slit finely with a micro slitter to a width of 1mm to 4mm, and wound into a spiral. The slit washi is twisted and interlaced with other fibres to create a material for use in woven fabrics.

Washi is an ecological material that is “created from nature and returns to nature to be reused”. It also has excellent compatibility with cotton. With the same mass as linen, yet only one third of the weight, a washi towel is ideal for everyday use.

Washi paper is not a type of paper that dissolves, it is fine and can be used in the same way as a cotton towel. It has a crisp feel like linen.

Murakami Pile was founded in 1960 in Imabari City. They want to deliver towels that are a part of peoples lives and make them feel good every time they touch or see them. Nurtured by its warm climate, high-quality water, rich nature and traditions beautiful towels are produced.
