Hōjicha is a roasted tea, made from the same leaves as matcha, but uses the remaining stems and parts of the leaf that did not become tencha - what matcha is called before it's ground into a powder. This is a great alternative to coffee and for those who have a low caffeine tolerance.

Hojicha is perfect for you if you struggle with coffee and needing an alternative! Hōjicha has a lower amount of naturally occurring caffeine, and has antioxidants and L-theanine - this lessens the side effects normally associated with coffee such as anxiety and restlessness. It’s also a great natural food colouring and commonly seen in baked goods and desserts. The smokey caramel flavour is one you start to crave and great for an afternoon tea.

Add 1/2 - 1 tsp of tea powder to 30mls of warm water. Whisk in a zig zag motion until silky smooth with a foamy top. Add your milk of choice for a latte.
